What Products Can You Use to Clean a Car Seat?
It's tempting to grab whatever's under the sink. With a car seat, the right product is the one your manufacturer lists for that part of that model.

Car seats are made from a mix of materials: fabric covers, foam, harness webbing, plastic shells and metal buckle parts. A product that's fine on one can be wrong for another, which is why manufacturers spell out what to use, part by part.
Start with the care section of your manual
Look for a section called care, cleaning or maintenance. It usually covers the cover, the harness, the buckle and the shell separately. Many manuals point to mild soap and water, but the details differ, so read the part you're about to clean.
Check the care tag on the cover
Many covers have a sewn-in care tag with washing and drying symbols. It's a quick check, but the manual has the full picture, including the parts that don't have a tag.

If the manual doesn't mention a product, ask first
Don't reach for bleach, solvents, strong household cleaners, fabric sprays or lubricants unless your manual names them. If you're not sure whether something is allowed, contact the manufacturer's customer service before you use it.
Skip the fragrance
A strong scent doesn't mean a seat is clean, and it can linger in the fabric for a long time. Fresh Start uses fragrance-free products for that reason.
