How Often Should You Clean a Car Seat?
There's no single schedule that fits every family. A seat that sees daily snacks and beach trips needs more attention than one used twice a week. Here's how to tell when it's time.

A quick clean, often
A quick vacuum of the seams and cup holders, plus a wipe of any spills the way your manual allows, keeps crumbs from building up. Many parents do this whenever they clean out the car.
A deeper clean, when you see the signs
- The seat crunches when your child sits down
- You can see crumbs or sand around the harness slots and seams
- There's a smell that doesn't go away
- Sticky spots on the buckle or harness
- Visible stains on the cover

Right away, after a big mess
Car sickness, a diaper blowout or a spilled bottle of milk is worth dealing with soon, before it soaks in. See how to clean vomit out of a car seat.
At life's big moments
- Before a new baby arrives
- Before passing a seat to a younger sibling
- Before storing a seat you'll use again
- After a road trip or a summer of beach days

Questions Parents Ask
Is there a recommended cleaning schedule?
Check your manual. It may give care guidance for your seat. Otherwise, clean when you see the signs, and soon after any big mess.
When can I collect my seat?
Drop-offs start as early as 6 AM. Drop off before noon and it's ready the same day. After noon, it's ready the next day. Most cleanings take 4–6 hours.
It's really, really bad. Can you help?
Whether the car seat is clean or dirty, you're still a good mom! This is a judgment-free zone. Give me a heads up so I come prepared, and I'll always do my best.
